Highlights of the Explore Queen Elizabeth Safari
TOUR ITINERARY
Day 1: Kampala - Queen Elizabeth National Park ( Jacana Safari Lodge / Mweya Safari Lodge)
After breakfast, set off for Queen Elizabeth National Park with our safari guide. Founded in 1954, Queen Elizabeth covers 2000 square miles of some of the most productive and scenic wildlife habitat in Africa and is also famous for its volcanic cones, deep craters and sparkling crater lakes. Almost 100 mammal species inhabit the park including hippos, elephants, lions, cape buffalo, leopard and spotted hyenas. There are also over 600 bird species including the martial eagle, Verreaux’s eagle owl and African skimmer. Primates include chimps, three species of colobus monkeys, red tailed monkeys and olive baboons. The journey to Queen Elizabeth national park is interesting. Dinner and overnight at the Safari Lodge
Day 2: Game Viewing, Launch Trip, Adventure
Early in the morning, we’re up early for a morning game drive where we’re likely to meet grazing hippos and elephants, lions resting from the night’s hunt, spotted hyenas, bushbucks, impala, jackal, leopard and warthogs. We return to the lodge for lunch and relaxation before taking an afternoon boat trip along the Kazinga Channel, a 19 mile long body of water that links Lake
Edward and Lake George and is a magnet for wildlife. The trip offers wonderful chances for close-up wildlife encounters: hippo’s huff and spray feet away from the boat, buffalo and elephant linger in the shallows. The shores of the channel are also home to an array of water loving birds including pink backed pelicans, pied and malachite kingfishers, and saddle billed storks. We return to the lodge for lunch and a siesta before venturing out to explore the Park’s wonders on an optional evening game drive (extra cost).
Day 3: Maramagambo Forest
We hike through Maramagambo Forest, one of the largest in Uganda, to explore bat caves and pretty Blue Lake. Many medicinal plants are found here as well as chimps, monkeys, colorful butterflies and a host of forest birds. Relax at the lodge
Day 4: Kyambura Gorge / Kampala
Early in the morning, go for a chimpanzee trek in Kyambura gorge (optional). Return to Kampala.
